FIRST IMPRESSIONS ON STORIES (with some examples see below) By Sakura Keiko

· The direct style- The direct style gets right to the point. It starts with a sentence, a phrase or a word that states what the story's all about. It is widely used by starting writers, but not very enjoyable by professionals.

· The "Quote"- Stories like this start with a quote that gives either a hidden meaning or a humorous statement. It varies from serious to hilarious. Novices usually use this method so the readers will know what to expect. Many readers appreciate this kind of work and some professionals enjoy it.

· The indirect style-If there's a direct style, there should and would be an indirect one. The indirect style has three types: the "weather" , the feelings and 2-in-1. The weather type first describes the setting of the story. It usually starts off with the kind of weather before focusing on the main character. The feeling type starts off with the character as anonymous and gives off clues using adjectives, all the while describing the character's feelings. The 2-in-1 offers both of these types. It begins on how the weather affects the feelings of the main character, at the same time stating her as anonymous. Adjectives and settings are given and are put together somewhere before focusing on the story. The indirect style is used in amatuer, creative and professional writing and has a wide audience.

· The others style- This style first mentions other characters' dialogues first before focusing on the main. I chose to unclassify this to indirect mode because the characters are somehow describing the main character while the indirect style focuses on other things. This method is usually used in Tv shows but can also be approprate for writing.

I enjoyed writing this really. I enjoy making lists. ^_^ Me? I use the direct very often, but sometimes (when I try to sound professional xD) I use indirect. I'm also capable of the others style, but I find it hard to write. I'm fascinated by the "quotes" style, but sadly can not do it :'( But I hope someday i can!

These facts may not be acurate and is only based on my observations. All people have different observations and you can't blame one for poor observations (or can you?)
